Let's get our *cult* right- part 3

November 26, 2008 in Asides,Work and fun @ One97 | | Comments (0)

Taking the series started by Smita on *cult* forward, I would like to bring up the subject of “Accessibility”.

Accessibility:

This value really is a gesture… a warm and friendly gesture … which helps eliminate formality and create a bond which develops a conducive work environment. How friendly? Well, consider this: we have a ‘First Name’ culture here. It’s been ages since I greeted someone with a  “Good Morning, Sir”! There is so much inter-mingling among all, that anybody can walk upto to any department and meet with the concerned person. I for one, feel that this saves up on a lot of time and leads to better understanding and co-operation between people and departments.

Mobile / Social / Messaging 2.0

Today, at IAMAI + Nokia meetup, I met many of my facebook/linkedin “buddies” for first time in real world!  The best thing was that I already had seen their status messages/photo posts and lot of other information beforehand.

At one point of time, offline messaging (read: Email) was the only type of messaging. Now you have instant message, Public Wall, Scrap Book (Orkut), broadcast messaging (Status message of FB / Linkedin) and live updates (Twitter /Jaiku). Top it up with options availble to device specific options : you have SMS, USSD and even PIN messaging (Sending a message to another blackberry device without going to mail server! )
Top it all up with multimedia messaging and variations of Push and Pull.  Whoa! there are so many options. (more…)

Let's get our *cult* right-part 2

This is a series on values that we feel either are or should be a part of our *cult*.
1. Freedom
2. Transparency
3. Fun

People don’t have to say that they are having fun at work. If they are, it shows. Is work only work, or could it be fun too? How does work become fun? My take: Of course, we all make our choices early in our career. But even the most seemingly fun jobs have their share of pain behind them. In such a scenario, what makes it real fun is different for different people. For some, a word of appreciation works wonders, while for others it may be a reward.

Let's get our *cult* right

The comments on Vijay’s post: NASSCOM Friday 2.0 inspired me to start discussing values arising out of our *cult*. Freedom is something already discussed. (Please see the comments in the post mentioned) Please do join me in contributing to the values we have and values we aspire. Let’s define our cult!

1. Freedom

2. Transparency
If you have seen the new One97 building, you could not have missed its glass facade. If you have ventured inside, you would have seen a sea of spaces lined with open work stations and cabins made of glass walls. A zero-barrier, open, transparent office.

What can you do with your mobile?

November 22, 2008 in Ideas and Discussions,Mobile,Vss | | Comments (0)

We are in business of making most out the mobile phone. There are many things your mobile can do today. With fantastic hard disk sizes and processing capabilities, a phone is less just-a-phone and more of a general purpose all-in-one device. Adding various device-side or network-side applications, you can enhance your everyday experience to new levels.

Today most of the Value Added Services business is based on entertainment value to user. It definitely is heading towards more utilities and services for everyday use.

I love exploring how others see and use their mobile devices. In this hunt, I spotted these two videos worth a dekko.

First one is from Google as part of mobile tricks and second is presentation by Nokia ‘s Anssi Vanjoki (whom I am meeting this week :) .

Google Mobile tricks:

In the second video, Anssi describes some key finds of user behaviors and how Nokia is leveraging them.

NASSCOM Friday 2.0

November 15, 2008 in Press, Media & Events,Vss,Work and fun @ One97 | | Comments (4)

Yesterday my trip to NASSCOM to speak at Friday 2.0 did get me many new learnings.
First, NASSCOM – which sounds very formal – was truly very friendly, second people who came there were good fun and finally it was an evening well spent.

We have been trying the get the best talent in and around Delhi/NCR to One97.

I am firm believer that a company is worth the company (of people) it offers !

Seeing a good target group, I asked my audience on how to get great talent to join in. There were many suggestions including trying out startup lunch, trying some PR 2.0 and internal references.
