Let's get our *cult* right

November 24, 2008 in Asides,Ideas and Discussions | | Comments (6)

The comments on Vijay’s post: NASSCOM Friday 2.0 inspired me to start discussing values arising out of our *cult*. Freedom is something already discussed. (Please see the comments in the post mentioned) Please do join me in contributing to the values we have and values we aspire. Let’s define our cult!

1. Freedom

2. Transparency
If you have seen the new One97 building, you could not have missed its glass facade. If you have ventured inside, you would have seen a sea of spaces lined with open work stations and cabins made of glass walls. A zero-barrier, open, transparent office.

This is what Wikipedia says about Corporate transparency: a form of radical transparency is the construct of removing all barriers to —and facilitating of— free and easy public access to corporate, political and personal information and the laws, rules, social connivance and processes that facilitate and protect those individuals and corporations who freely join, develop and embellish the process.

So are we really as transparent as our “look”? What does it take for us to become a  zero-barrier, open, transparent company? Is it enough that our “top brass” is easily accessible? Is it enough that expression has its close friend: freedom at hand?

    Hi Smita,

I happen to know Vijay and recently met him @ your Noida facility. Truly putting it, the experience was great, looking at the open spaces the coloful environs, the entire feel and ambience was inviting!!

Looking forward to see this *cult* taking a defining shape in the organizational culture and people wearing One97 on their sleeves!!

    Hi,
I have never being to the one97 office or met the founder, but carrying your bag and logo every day I got in VAS conference in delhi makes me “card” carrying one 97.
My take on organization specially the new age companies are manifestation of how the founder brains works for business and life. It is as a commentator recently mentioned “a company and its business is the clone of the brain of founder and mirrors some degree to the founders outlook in business and life”. If it extends to how the employees working and working conditions it is a utopia !!
    Enjoy and cheers

We hope we are closing in on this utopia. :)

    Hey Smita,

Great to see you responding to all the commentators’. Well, met Vijay @ the NASSCOM Friday’s 2.0 and all I’d say is, for an emerging company its an absolute essential that the founding leadership to be highly flexible in its vision.

And Vijay has it, without any doubts!

Well, during the course of my career probably this is only the first time I’d see a *cult* forming in a highly cluttered corporate culture. All my wishes!
